A campaign has been launched to improve the public perception of the railway.

The Rail Delivery Group’s Britain Runs on Rail campaign will be seen across stations, at strategic locations in towns and cities, and from next spring in a television advertising campaign.

Britain Runs on Rail will highlight how the railway plays a crucial role in the UK economy and how it is helping the country to grow. It aims to raise public awareness of how money received from taxpayers and the farebox is used to improve journeys through infrastructure and new trains.

“The railway is an ever more vital public service, making a crucial contribution to national life. But large parts of our railway are full because of decades of underinvestment,” said RDG Chief Executive Paul Plummer.

The campaign is being funded by train operating companies and includes both open access companies as well as franchised operators.
