Rail freight on upward curve as passenger rail performance dips, ORR data shows
The Office of Rail and Road has released its latest quarterly passenger and freight rail performance reports which showed a slight decline in performance across the network for the passenger performance but a marked improvement for freight in the three months of April to June.
Track access charges waived for new rail freight traffic
In a move designed to encourage further modal shift to rail freight, Network Rail and the Department for Transport have waived track access charges for new freight flows the next six months in a bid to bring new business onto the nation’s tracks.
DP World extends its Modal Shift Programme
DP World has extended its Modal Shift Programme until the end of next year. The programme is aiming to move 40% of freight at its terminal in Southampton via rail by 2026 and with it, removing thousands of trucks off the country’s roads.
